Eighth Annual Hunnert Car Pileup

hunnert1b.jpg

This Saturday, October 10th, will mark the eighth annual Hunnert Car Pileup car and bike show.  You can forget about the prized, $100,000 cars that are brought to the shows on a trailer.  Hunnert is different.  It's greasy, dusty, and loud.  This show only accepts hot rods and custom cars from 1964 and earlier that are done in a classic look.  You won't see any seventies muscle cars or little Civics that sound like a hornets nest that you just pissed off.  But you will see rat rods and plenty of other classic looking cars that takes you back to a bygone era.

And if you're interested in hearing some great music while looking at the cars, then you won't be disappointed.  A covered pavilion will feature the sounds of Crazy Rocket Fuel, Cathouse Drifters, and Nuke Mutes.  And pre-show as well as post-show parties are held with even more music.  Check out all the band listings.

Social Distortion Winding Down European Tour

Social Distortion, the classic Southern California punk band, is nearing the end of their month long European tour.  Only five shows remain before coming home to start their U.S. and Canadian tour.  The band is feeling good about their European tour according to Social Distortion's Web site.

You can check out their opening number from their Barcelona show below.  It's a good chance to see Atom Willard on drums.  Willard replaced Charlie Quintana when he announced he would be stepping down as Social Distortion's drummer after ten years with the band.  Also note the crowd's sing-a-long around 1:15.  It sounds very similar to a European football match.  At least they could sing to Social Distortion even if they weren't singing when the U.S. beat Spain in the Confederations Cup semi-final.

Virgin Mobile Announces Free Festival

So what's better than enjoying great live music in the summertime?  How about enjoying it for FREE?

Concert goers will be happy to know that the organizers of the Virgin Mobile Festival have decided to make this year's music festival free.  They decided to help music fans out in this rough economy, but they are also hoping that some of these individuals will donate money to The RE*Generation.  The RE*Generation is a charitable group under Virgin Mobile that assists in helping homeless children.  Concert goers can text the word "FREEFEST" to 20222, which will automatically donate $5 to the charity.

35,000 tickets will be given away for the festival, which has been renamed the Virgin Mobile FreeFest.  Virgin Mobile customers and previous festival ticket-buyers will be allowed to obtain the free tickets June 25 and 26.  Tickets will become available to the public starting June 27.
